I’m Melissa, tea blender, island mama, and the heart behind Maui Tea Shack.

My love of tea began with my grandmothers.

My dad’s mom filled her home with the warm scent of cinnamon spice tea. My mom’s mom loved English breakfast with milk and sugar, a ritual she learned from her parents, who came to the United States from England. Long before I had words for it, tea taught me about ritual and the quiet comfort found in small, familiar moments.

Years later, when I was twenty, I found myself drawn even deeper into the world of tea. My acupuncturist always had a fresh pot of herbal tea brewing, and I began to fall in love with the connection between plants, wellness, and the simple act of making a cup.

Tea became a rhythm in my life.

I explored different varieties, drank my fair share of tea, and came to appreciate just how beautiful a truly good loose leaf tea could be. Around the same time, supporting organic farming became increasingly important to me, shaping the way I thought about where my food and herbs came from and how they were grown.

Living in Hawaiʻi deepened that connection even more. I was drawn to the vibrant flavors and traditional wellness uses of the plants that grow here, from tropical fruits and fragrant flowers to herbs, roots, and spices. Over time, I began experimenting, blending, and creating loose leaf teas of my own.

What began as a simple personal ritual slowly grew into something bigger.  A tea company rooted in wellness and community, supporting the organic farmers that fill our cup. 

My hope is to create exceptional teas that taste beautiful, support well being, and give you a reason to slow down and make a little more space for yourself.
