Make Your Own Pineapple Simple Syrup
If you prefer a touch of sweetness to your green tea, our go-to addition for The Green (the best quality green tea in our opinion) is a homemade Pineapple Simple Syrup. It adds an extra sweet, juicy, tropical flavor to each cup. It's the perfect twist to enhance your green tea experience.
How to Pick the Perfect Pineapple
- Feel: When ripe, a pineapple should yield and feel slightly soft when squeezed, even under its prickly exterior. If it feels hard like a rock, opt for a different pineapple.
- Smell: Sniff the base of your pineapple. A ripe pineapple will exude tropical, fruity, and floral scents. An overripe one may have a sour or fermented smell. Avoid these pineapples and choose another one.
- Color: Ripe pineapples are yellow in color. The more golden, the better. The yellow color indicates that the pineapple is ripe and ready to enjoy.
Pineapple Green Tea Recipe
Pineapple Green Tea is easy to make at home. This simple recipe for Pineapple Green Tea features fresh pineapple, however you can use frozen if that's what is available to you. This recipe creates a sweet, tropical and fruity syrup that imparts a refreshing flavor that is a perfect pair with green tea.
To begin, gather:
1 cup of water
1 cup of sugar
1/2 of a pineapple cut into 1" cubes
1 cup of freshly brewed green tea (The Green is our favorite).
Combine the water and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Once the mixture comes to a gentle boil, reduce the heat and add the pineapple. Allow to simmer for about 5-10 minutes to infuse the pineapple flavor into the syrup. Afterward, strain the mixture to remove any fruit solids, leaving you with a clear and fragrant pineapple simple syrup.
Brew a cup of green tea (The Green) by steeping it for 2 minutes at 180°. Personalize your tea by adding Pineapple Simple Syrup to suit your taste. This is also delicious as an iced tea. Simply allow to cool and pour over ice. Take a moment to unwind, inhale deeply, and savor this pleasant tea experience.
This delicious simple syrup can be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
